Full-Mouth Debridement

Our dentist and team offer full-mouth debridement

Gum disease can have a number of causes, but the primary culprit is the accumulation of plaque and tartar on your teeth, including the roots. At our office, our dentist and team offer full-mouth debridement in Plymouth, Massachusetts. This is an effective treatment that Dr. Sandra L. MacDonald can use to thoroughly clean your teeth and restore your oral health. We invite you to call 508-830-3339 today if you would like more information about our restorative dentistry or to schedule your appointment.

Visit our dentist to prevent plaque or tartar build up

If you do not visit our dentist regularly for routine cleanings, the plaque and tartar on your teeth can build up, creating thick deposits on your teeth that make it difficult to determine if you have tooth decay, periodontal disease, or other dental problems above or below the gumline. When this occurs, we may recommend a full-mouth debridement to remove the deposits.

Full-mouth debridement is more complex and takes more time than a routine dental cleaning. During this treatment, our dentist will scrape away the thick deposits of plaque and tartar covering your teeth. This treatment may also be performed by a dental hygienist. Both traditional and electric scaling tools may be used.

After the deposits have been scraped away, we will be able to determine the presence and severity of any dental problems. You may still need a regular cleaning or further treatment after your debridement procedure, such as a filling, root canal, scaling and root planing, or even oral surgery.

We encourage you to visit our office at regular six-month intervals for preventive care, especially if you have recently undergone full-mouth debridement. For more information about full-mouth debridement and to schedule your appointment with our dentist, please contact us today.
